Police defying Met chief's order to show ID badges
Police officers should identify themselves all over in the Great Britain. When they are on duty they have to put their indentify number on their shoulders. This is the order of Sir Paul Stephenson the commissioner of UK’s police force. According to Jenny Jones a green party member of the London Assembly the officers who do not follow the roles should face “server disciplinary action”. Miss Jones a member of the Metropolitan Police Authority said that there must be something wrong in the system which allows the officers to refuse the roles and do not identify themselves. This matter is going on for a long time in the UK, but after the death of Ian Tomlinson everything has changed and the police officers should identify themselves. “If some officers refuse to identify themselves then he/she will suspected of doing something wrong” said home secretary David Davis.
Reflection
As we discussed it in the class, the police in the UK have authority and the distance between the police and the citizens is great. Here in the Netherlands the police and the citizens are like friends because the police do not stand opposite the citizens, but next to them. The citizen in the Netherland are not afraid of their policemen, instead they feel secure when the police are around. A course it is the same in the UK, but recently the UK’s police officers made so many mistakes and then refuse to identify themselves that the UK’s citizens do not feel secure anymore. It is a good job that the Great Britain decided to oblige the police officers to identify themselves by the citizens, so the citizens can feel secure and the police can do his job.

I completely agree with Manija on the fact that it is a good thing that the police officers are obliged to identify themselves. I do have respect for the Dutch police officers but as i have learnt in class most of my classmates do not. It is not a good thing that in the UK you do not feel safe anymore. I think that in the Netherlands it is way better.
ReplyDeleteIsn't this in Holland also a rule? To identify yourself as a policeman/woman? I thought is was. But also agree, it's a good thing the police has to identify themselves because when the policeman/woman identifies you know who you have in front of you and you will feel secure. People in the Netherlands always have to have some kind of identification with them and show it when it's asked, so why also no the police? I think our classmates only see the negative side of the police but think about what happens when there's no police.. It would be a mess.
ReplyDeletemanija - good comments - watch out for constructions, like - "recently ...the UK police has made" and "the matter has been going on for a long time" You have reflected well on hte situation - keep up the good work
