Twins raise risk of postnatal depression
Mothers of twins or triplets suffer more from postnatal depression than the mothers of single babies. The Twins and Multiple birth Association has done a research and found out that 17% of mothers have suffered from PND and 18% are not sure about the feeling of postnatal depression. Some mothers walk away, some of them feel alone and some of them want to commit suicide. The reason of PND is less sleep, no help from the family, poor quality of antenatal care or pregnancy complications. According to Judi Linney, the association's president and a former midwife, health visitor and public health director many families with twins and triplets suffer from PND because they do not have enough information about multiple births. To help those families the government should offer more education and practical support for twins parents.
Reflection
Having babies is a great responsibility especially for mothers. In the most countries and cultures the mother is the one to take care of the children and the fathers work only outside of the home and in the most time do not feel responsible for taking care of their children. Of course when as a mother you have to do everything alone you will feel depress and when you have not one but two or three babies in the same time it will be more difficult. Nowadays women work also outside of home and they have to do almost everything at home as well. So the idea to educate both parents and give them enough information before having a baby or a couple of babies is very good and it maybe help mothers and fathers to do a good job and to enjoy having childeren.

As a mother it is already hard enough to raise two children and work next to that. For us it is normal that the parental is shared between the father and mother, where inEngland the father comes home when the children are in bed. i can imagine this makes the wives depressed. People should be aware of the responsibility they have when haviong children, it is good that they are educated in this. when you have children it is your responsibility for years, people are not always aware of that.
ReplyDelete" it maybe (may) help mothers and fathers to do a good job and to enjoy having childeren (children)" .
ReplyDeleteI thought that having one baby at at time was time-consuming enough> The thought of having twins !!!
I agree. Raising a child is difficult especially if you are a working mother. More difficult if you have twins. I support the idea that the government should offer parents (and families) education and practical support on having and raising children.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well, it is so important that parents think about what to do áfter the baby comes! Especially when you have 2 or 3 babies, I can only assume that it would be a lot of hard work. Babies need your attention all the time, even at night and if you don't cooperate with your partner (which means you probably won't get enough rest at night) I can imagine it being so overwhelming that you get depressed. Education for BOTH parents could be the key to better parenting for you and the babies.
